Can Chiropractic Care Help Stabilize Your Blood Sugar?

Blood Sugar and Chiropractic

We realize that blood sugar and chiropractic care seem unrelated at first glance, particularly if you have an unclear understanding of what chiropractic care is really about. But the one thing you have to remember with the human body is that it’s all one interconnected system.

In other words, a problem at one end can create symptoms at the other. But first …

What is Blood Sugar?

Your body needs sugar, in the form of glucose, for fuel. Your pancreas makes insulin – a hormone that enables your cells to use that glucose. When your body becomes resistant to insulin, it’s not able to remove sugar from your blood, which creates elevated blood sugar problems, which could damage your blood vessels, which could lead to a number of other problems.

Your blood sugar needs to be in a normal, healthy range for you to be at your healthiest. If it’s too low, you become hypoglycemic. If it’s too high, you become hyperglycemic. And if it’s consistently high, it’s likely just a matter of time before you’re diagnosed with diabetes.

The Central Nervous System

There exists a pretty wild misconception of chiropractic care. While most people no longer view chiropractic physicians as quacks, they probably still believe that chiropractors only treat back and neck pain issues.

The truth is that chiropractic care is mostly about keeping the central nervous system healthy by keeping the spine healthy.

Your brain communicates to the rest of your body through your nervous system. Every single function in your body is dependent on this communication. When your spine is healthy and aligned, this communication remains strong and uninterrupted. But if your spine is not in alignment, this can result in pressure on your nervous system.

It only takes a slight amount of pressure – as in the weight of a single dime – to cause a disruption in nervous system communication, and there have been studies done to support this. And when this interference occurs, you could literally experience problems anywhere in your body, including blood sugar levels that are too high, or too low.

The Nervous System/Blood Sugar Connection

The upper neck and middle of the back are specific areas responsible for supplying nerve signals to the brain and the vital organs. When these signals are interrupted, your pancreas, blood sugar levels, and digestion are all affected.

The combination of improper digestion plus abnormal blood sugar levels creates a greater risk of becoming diabetic. And let’s not forget that if your pancreas is also affected negatively by nervous system communication, your body will have a much more difficult time producing the insulin it needs to use that sugar as fuel.

There have been several studies that support this link between central nervous system health and blood sugar levels. In fact, some of those studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments to the upper neck and mid back can provide direct benefits to those suffering from diabetes.

What’s the Alternative?

While chiropractic care seeks to address the problem, medications only mask the problem by treating the symptoms. However, this can be even more dangerous, as symptoms are your body’s way of alerting you to a problem. If you ignore these signals, irreversible damage to organs can result.

Medications also come with side effects, which are often more dangerous than the original need for medication, and sometimes require more medication. It’s a system designed to keep you sick and on drugs. Don’t worry. There’s a better way!

Chiropractic Care is Whole Body Care

If you’re experiencing low or elevated blood sugar levels and are looking for an alternative to dangerous prescription medications, perhaps a safe and effective adjustment can help.

If a misalignment is at the root of your trouble, a simple chiropractic adjustment may help restore that vital communication between your brain and the rest of your body via your central nervous system.

It’s this communication that can help stabilize your blood sugar levels and keep your organs functioning properly. It’s also responsible for a healthy immune system and proper hormone function. And pretty much every other system and bodily function you can think of.
